| Henehan Hills 2001 Syrah Dry Creek Valley Tasting Notes: A big, full-bodied Syrah with a deep purple color. Intense aromas of rose petal, blackberries, currants and white pepper. Traditional fruit flavors of blueberry and black raspberry combine with hints of cherry and cocoa and smokey French oak, resulting from 15 months of oak barrel aging. A classic Northern Rhone-styled Syrah. Awards: California State Fair - Bronze Food Pairing: The ripe fruit and spicy white pepper will go wonderfully with herb crusted rack of lamb, Cuban roast pork or a spicy barbeque. About the Winery: Introduced in the Fall of 2003, Henehan Hills was named after the Henehan family that cultivated the rolling green hills of County Clare in Ireland. These hills epitomize the coastal seascapes, small valleys and rolling hillsides that make up the Sonoma Valley appellation and represent the region where its grapes are produced. The unusual geography of the region has created nearly a dozen sub-appellations, each with its own combination of environmental influences. The growing conditions range from cool and foggy in the Carneros and Russian River Valleys, ideal for Chardonnay and Pinot Noir, to the long, warm days of the Dry Creek and Alexander Valleys, which favor our Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Zinfandel grapes. The soil, geographic influence and climate of a region all contribute to a vineyard’s "terroir”. The Henehan Hills portfolio is selected with this combination in mind, sourced from the finest grapes produced in Sonoma County’s distinct growing regions – grapes that not only show true varietal characteristics but also bring forth the geographical influence of a single vineyard or sub-appellation. This passion and attention to detail has produced wines that truly showcase all that Sonoma’s talented grape growers and winemakers have to offer – and is the basis for Henehan Hills. Henehan Hills wines represent the best of Sonoma County, making them approachable, polished, supple and generous. They are perfect for drinking everyday yet offer a silky texture rich enough for special occasions, with a lingering finish that stays with you long after you’ve tasted it. We hope you enjoy them as much as we do! |
